“an intriguing balance of sounds blended warmly with flashes of unexpected highlights […]” C. E. O’Meadhra (Bray Arts)
"ethereal [...] cosmos" J. Byrne (103.2 Dublin City FM)
While her voice somewhat reminds of Beth Gibbons (Portishead), Björk, Elizabeth Fraser (Massive Attack), Tori Amos, or Katie Melua, El Grey is definitely making a style all of her own: an alternative fusion of dream rock, acoustic music, minimalism, electronica & jazz. Her songs are all colours and tones.. of Grey.
Some of them are bright, warm and feminine, some are not-so-pretty, more edgy and quirky; it's like a dialogue between different alter egos.
Her shows are dreamy, atmospheric and intimate – filled with genuine passion, haunting melodies, and various computer-generated instruments & electro effects that have mesmerizing qualities. El Grey has a broad vocal range and distinctive tone & singing style – with characteristic vocal improvisations, where the vocals can act as yet another creative instrument. She plays the acoustic guitar and she is accompanied by Chris Topher, who does percussion & computer fxs.
Based in Bray, Co. Wicklow, born in Gdansk (Poland), yet nearly 8 years in Ireland, she's found she can't stop hearing melodies in her head, and only recently got the courage to share what she's got.
El Grey is a mature sound that may get you intrigued, and your ears alert.
